Enterprise Java Programming Class Setup

These instructions are for the Enterprise Java Programming class. Please complete the Java Programming class setup instructions before following the instructions below. A total of approximately 750 Mb of disk space is required, which includes 200 Mb for temporary downloads that can be deleted once the software has been installed and tested.
For all downloads listed below, please right click on the link and select 'Save Target As...' [Internet Explorer] or 'Save As...' [Netscape].
This class requires the SunOne Studio to be installed as detailed below. If any other webserver software is installed on the classroom systems, please shutdown the servers before starting the installation and ensure that any automatic start facility for existing webservers is disabled. In particular, for Windows 2000 systems, ensure the IIS Admin Service is not running. If you do not shut down IIS, the Sun Application Server will not start correctly.
Download and install SunOne Application Server
- Download the SunOne Studio installer s1s5u1se-win-en.exe [190 Mb] - store the file in a temporary directory.
- Install the SunOne Studio by executing the downloaded file; click 'Next' to step over the Standard Edition Setup welcome screen.
- On the 'Software Licence Agreement' screen, select the 'Accept' radio button to accept the licence and click 'Next' to continue and allow the software to search for a suitable JDK.
- On the 'Select SD ' screen below, confirm that the J2SDK home is set as shown, then click 'Next to continue'.

- On the 'Product Serial Number' screen, click the 60 day trial button, which will generate a serial number and display it in the Serial Number box as shown below. Click 'Next' to continue.

- On the 'Proxy Server' screen, do not enter any information'. Click 'Next' to continue.
- On the 'Installation Directory' screen (see below), leave the default directory selection as 'C:\Sun\studio5u1_se'. Click 'Next' to continue.

Click "Yes" to confirm creation of the specified directory. On the Component Selection screen, click "Next" to continue. On the Associations screen, leave all associations checked and click "Next" to continue. Click "Next" on the final confirmation screen as illustrated below:

- The SunOne Studio software will now be installed. A progress dialog is displayed during this process, which may take up to 10 minutes, depending on the memory and processor speed of the installation system.

- When the software has completed installation, the following screen is displayed:

Click "Finish" to end the setup program.

Start the SunOne studio, by clicking the new desktop icon. The following screen is displayed:

This completes the setup for the Enterprise Java Programming class.
